Feng Shui

This morning, Sarah Buckwalter appeared on NECN to show you how to Feng Shui your desk for a more successful career and work-life. Click here to watch the video.

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of arranging your environment so that energy or “chi” flows gently and smoothly through your space.

By adapting some of the principles of Feng Shui, you can organize your desk to help boost your career and create a work-life balance. Here are some of the key aspects of Feng Shui.

First: Clear the Clutter
The first principle of Feng Shui is to clear the clutter. Get everything off your desk. Put papers in a file cabinet, books on a shelf, and office supplies into a drawer. If you have items you must keep handy, then organize them into an attractive tray or basket.

Next: Focus on Key Areas
The Feng Shui Bagua is an energy map that shows you which areas of your space are connected to specific areas of your life.

When sitting at your desk, the far left corner is the MONEY area. Place items this corner that represent wealth. According to Feng Shui; this could be a lush green plant, a small water feature or a picture of a waterfall, or a “money toad”. You can also use images of things you’d like to do or own once you have a better income. Pick one or two things, because you don’t want to clutter it up too much!

Your chair represents your CAREER area. Keep it clean and well oiled (no squeaking!) Always allow it to easily move in any direction. The chair should be adjusted so your feet can sit firmly on the floor.

The center of your desk is the HEALTH area. If you want a healthy career, your work area should be clean & “happy looking” at the center. Consider a new blotter or other desktop covering in sunny yellow; that’s the best color for the Health area.

Remember that the key to Feng Shui is to keep everything organized and free of clutter. This will start you on your way to great success!
