When a family of four relocated to the Boston area, they were looking for more than just a fresh start — they were seeking ease. With two young children and a packed schedule, the parents, both professionals, wanted their new home to be completely unpacked, furnished, and functional before they even set foot inside. And since they were overseas on vacation during the move, they needed to trust that someone could manage it all with care, clarity, and competence.
That’s exactly what Organizing Boston delivered.
The Challenge: A Blank Slate, a Moving Target
The home was empty when the project began — just boxes, new furniture deliveries en route, and a family thousands of miles away. Kate, one of Organizing Boston’s Lead Organizers, was tasked with turning this blank canvas into a warm, fully livable home.
Adding complexity: the family was ordering additional items while abroad, sometimes with little control over what was arriving or when. And unlike many projects, there was no in-person interaction or client walkthrough during the setup.
Client Goals: “We Just Want to Arrive and Live”
The family’s priorities were clear: no boxes, no chaos, no unfinished corners.

They wanted:
- A turnkey setup including furniture assembly, room layouts, and system creation
- Handyman coordination for art and TV mounting
- Comfort and routine ready for their daughters, even without a formal playroom
-
Clear communication from afar

The Unpacking Approach: Personalized Systems, Daily Feedback
Kate approached the project with a blend of logistical precision and human intuition. Each day, she sent the clients updates and photos, helping them make small decisions remotely while building trust in the process.
Some unexpected challenges arose:
-
More furniture arrived than initially scoped
-
Several items required assembly
-
With no dedicated playroom, Kate had to creatively reimagine other rooms for dual purposes
To make it all work, Kate set up a flexible toy and activity zone in the basement where the girls could “shop” for what they wanted to bring upstairs — turning uncertainty into empowerment.

Finishing Touches with Thoughtful Care

On the final day of setup, Kate emailed the client with this note:
Yesterday was very productive at the house. The only thing left to do is have the TV mounted and the large piece of art hung next to it. I’ll let the handyman in on Tuesday for that and send you a video of the first and second floors. The guys were wrestling the couch upstairs and I was trying to stay out of the way! But I’m sending you a video of the completed 3rd floor.
The two bookshelves arrived, so I assembled them and put one in the guest room and one in [the child’s] room.
I noticed you don’t have a recycling barrel so I put in a request with the city to drop one off.
All the best,
Kate
It’s these small, thoughtful details — anticipating a missing recycling bin, quietly arranging bookshelves — that define Organizing Boston’s difference.

What was once an empty house quickly became a welcoming, functional, and organized home. Each room was thoughtfully arranged to support the family’s lifestyle — from bedrooms that felt restful, to common areas that worked seamlessly for work, play, and everyday flow.
The client’s reply said it all:
