Organizer Name: Pam Ahearn

How long have you been a Professional Organizer?
Since 2012

Why did you want to become a Professional Organizer?
I have always loved organizing and order. I finally got to the point in my life where I am able to do what I love, help people do something that is difficult for them, as well as run my own business. It’s the best of both worlds. When my friends want to go shoe shopping, I’d rather go to the Container Store :)!

What is your favorite part about being a Professional Organizer?
The reaction I see when working one on one with a client who is struggling with the overwhelm of clutter and chaos. It’s a simple process for me, but huge for them.

What is your favorite thing to organize?
I love kitchen command centers and mudrooms. Having spent 15 years as a stay-at-home Mom I had great systems in place for my own family. My children were always very involved in sports and activities so systems were necessary to keep them on time and properly equipped. They were always organized with schoolwork and schedules because our house had “homes” for everything and systems in place.

Tell us about a successful organizing project.
I’m currently working on a large house, top to bottom. It is a large combined family with 30+ years of accumulation. I am going room by room sorting, containing, etc. It’s making a huge impact on the family, which gives me such a great feeling of satisfaction.

Tell us about your family.
I have a husband, Tim, a 22 year old son Nick, who is a recent Babson College grad now living and working in Raleigh, NC and a 19 year old daughter at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

What do you like to do in your free time?
We’re a big baseball family (my son played from t-ball thru college) so most of the past 15 years were spent on baseball fields along the east coast. I also play golf, love to cook, exercise, the beach and travel.

Please share one of your favorite organizing tips.
Establishing “homes” for all of your items is probably one of the basics I like to use the most. Once you determine where items should be stored, and maintain that system and you’ll find it easy to find what you’re looking for quickly. Simple habits like putting your mail or keys or purse in a designated spot can be an easy way to streamline your routine.

What is your favorite organizing product?
I don’t have a favorite. I use over the door shoe organizers for numerous items often. Also drawer dividers work wonders. And my label maker is priceless.
