10 Tips to Reorganize your Storage Space

The weeks are hectic enough without any added disorganization, plus the last thing you want to do after a long day is to have to search for things or run around trying to find last-minute replacements. With these 10 tips you can get your storage space reorganized and ready for any season. Getting it organized now before the holidays arrive would be a bonus and save you boat loads of time during the next few months so you can focus on other priorities!

So let’s begin, shall we???

    1. Assess your current situation: Perhaps you’ve always hosted family gatherings, but now your kids are grown and hosting them instead. Maybe you’ve downsized and just don’t have the space for knickknacks anymore. Have a general idea what you need and want to keep before you start the organizing process. This will especially help you when it comes to the decluttering part.

    2. Clear it out: Remove everything from the closet or shelves, so that you can start with a blank slate.

    3. Consolidate: If you have a variety of items stored all throughout your home, collect them and put them in one place, so you can see everything you have.

    4. Sort: Sort through everything and create categories such as, summer/winter clothes, decorations, memorabilia, gifts, books, etc.

    5. Declutter: Get rid of anything you no longer want, need or like. Toss any broken items.

    6. Create a list: Is there anything that you need to replace? Make a list so you can replace these items when you shop for containers.

    7. Containerize: Find containers that will hold everything you are keeping and fit in the space where you are storing them. The Container Store has a great selection of assorted organizing containers that will keep your items safe!

    8. Store: Put everything away in the containers by category and put items back into the storage space. You might want to invest in a label maker (it will soon be your new best friend!).

    9. Label: Label containers and shelves with easy- to-read labels and you won’t have to search for something ever again!

    10. Maintain: When it comes time to put everything away (think after the holidays are over), follow this process again and again to ensure that you’ll always be organized! After all, practice makes perfect!
