Meet the Organizer: Karen Manning.

At Organizing Boston, we work very closely with our clients, spending time in your personal space and getting to know you and your family very well. Here, we would like to give you the opportunity to get to know our Professional Organizers better, so you will be comfortable letting us into your homes and lives and help guide you with your organizing journey.

Organizer’s Name: Karen Manning

How long have you been a Professional Organizer?

Pretty much all of my life! I grew up in a military family, which meant we moved frequently during my father’s career–in the US and abroad. Those experiences taught me the vital importance of keeping my home and personal life organized, efficient, and uncluttered. I have never forgotten the the lessons I learned and habits I developed during that time. I’ve turned them into the methods and advice I use to help clients keep their home and work lives manageable. I help them apply simple organizational techniques and habits that help them increase their productivity and live and work in a space that is free from distraction, clutter, and unnecessary stress.

Why did you want to become a Professional Organizer?

I’ve always found a great deal of satisfaction from bringing order to chaotic environments. It’s a talent that I took for granted over the years–helping family and friends keep their homes organized and efficient. But when I found out that my skills could be put to professional use, I jumped at the chance! I knew I had the right technical and people skills to do something that I greatly enjoy while making a positive difference in people’s lives.

What is your favorite part about being a Professional Organizer?

I really enjoy the feeling of transforming a space from chaos to simplicity–and the appreciation from my clients when they experience the difference. It is especially fun to watch a client get excited about organizing themselves or watch them begin to relax knowing they have a space where they can live and work that promotes productivity, creativity, and success.

What is your favorite thing to organize?

The most cluttered spaces are my favorite places! Attics, Basements, and Closets.  But the exact type of space doesn’t matter as much, so long as the process of organizing a space for a client provides them positive benefits. I love helping people move or downsize as it uses my lifelong experience as an Army Brat.

Tell us about a successful organizing project.

Helping a family with a child with complex special needs organize their home office, mounting paperwork and setting up a system for storing medical supplies.  Any project where I can ease the burdens of those coping with difficult life issues is especially gratifying.  These jobs offer me the opportunity to use my experience working with families, teens or adults dealing with executive function disabilities like adhd, ocd and autism.

Tell us about your family.

I have been married for 23 years to my husband and we have a 17-year-old son. Both of them have ADHD, so keeping a well organized space is essential to minimizing their challenges. We also have a really big, white, hairy dog! His name is Polar and he is a Great Pyrenees. It is a breed that sheds constantly and profusely, so you won’t see me wearing black!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am very passionate about health and fitness which is why I am also a certified personal trainer. I  love to dance — swing, salsa, even Zumba at the gym!  I enjoy spending time with family and friends and also love meeting and talking with people from different cultures throughout the world.
